2019 Victorian PGA Trainee Championships

The 2019 Trainee Championships were held at Tocumwal Golf Course on the 7th-10th of May and featured 111 first, second and third year trainees from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. Amongst those were Latrobe trainees, first year Callum McKenzie and third year Matt Doran.

After the first two rounds, the cut was set at +8, with only the top 50 progressing to the final two rounds. After shooting 75, 75 Callum progressed through, along with Matt who shot 77, 70. From there Matt finished with two rounds of 75 to finish in 23rd spot which was a great result. Callum finished with 78 and 76 to finish 40th.

The guys would like to take this opportunity to thank all Latrobe members for their well wishes, and support through the Trainee raffle (which unfortunately produced no winners). Without this support, the week wouldn’t be possible.
Thank you.

Lives at Latrobe is back this month we interview

Latrobe MyGolf

MyGolf is part of Golf Australia’s national Junior development program. Running from the start of term 3, MyGolf will start on Thursday night, July 11th from 4:30 for 45 minutes. MyGolf is designed to introduce and nurture the early stages of golf development with skill and confidence building activities to help create a love for the game.

Activities will look to build the foundations of the swing with a main focus associated with set-up and coordination. Activities will be tailored to the skill and strength levels of the juniors with regards to putting, pitching and long shots. Further, every few weeks Matt will take the kids onto our recently developed 'short course' to provide the juniors the opportunity to build their skills out on course, without the intimidation of a full-sized golf course.

Initial Dates: 7/7, 21/7. 4/8, 18/8, 1/9

Girls that Golf Latrobe

Sundays each week see the young girls that are now members of our club unleash their games on the Latrobe Course and our Forward courses. 18 holes, 9 holes and Ambrose golf are played by over 10 young girls learning to love the game at Latrobe. A product of our Latrobe family connections and healthy collaborations with Yarra Bend and Bulleen Ranges, the aim is to build confidence in themselves and their golf games and be nurtured into building friendships playing golf at our club together.

Dates: Every Sunday. Contact Tony or the Proshop if your daughters or grand daughters want to be involved.

Adult Golf Development Programs

Swing Fit, Swing Fit 2.0

One of the great innovations of Golf Australia is a national Program specifically designed to introduce women to the game. Started at Latrobe in 2018 as a trial, the Tuesday sessions and ongoing SF 2.0 extension has proven to be a great fun way to become involved in the game. Aimed at beginners, progress together though learning to play golf in a social orientated environment that touches on fitness as well as golf. We provide a nurturing comfortable environment that builds friendships as well as golf games.

If you have a friend, partner or just you want to learn and play golf for fun, healthy activity and social interactions, be involved in a swing fit class. Humour included.

Dates: Next Swing Fit Class starts on Tuesdays at 11 a.m.: July 2, 9,16, 23, 30 and August 6

Swing Fit Weekend:

If you cannot be part of Tuesday and are keen to learn, please let the ProShop or Tony know, and a weekend class is an option on Saturday or Sunday arvo.

Get on Course Group

Learning to play the game on course can be intimidating and discouraging. The Get on Course group is designed to change that completely. Under the tag line, Fun, conversation and humour, Tuesday afternoons are becoming the place to enjoy just playing the game. It is where our Swing Fitters and beginning women are stretching their legs and smoking their hybrids down the middle with more than just the Kookaburras laughter in the background. This is the natural extension of Swing Fit and beginning golf, it is just golfing for fun and the ducks have learnt to give us a wide berth.

Dates: Tuesdays after lunch, please see Tony if you are keen to join.

Individual Lessons

Tony, Russell and Matt are all available to ensure anyone looking to book in a lesson can do so on any day. Simply call the proshop to arrange a time specifically with one of us or with any of us. We are keen to help you play better and improve your enjoyment in the game.

Purple and Orange Courses

Stay tuned for more information as we bring the forward courses to life. Used by the Yarra Bend Junior Collaboration and Girls that Golf Latrobe, it has extensions coming to help our smaller hitters and more elderly to enjoy the game more. The Purple Course is designed for people that hit over 100m and up to 150m and the Orange Course is for those that can not hit to 100m. Playing length appropriate courses is a great way to enjoy the game and develop belief in your golf. It is also not bad for the longer hitters to sharpen up their approach shots to greens.

We will announce soon when the Forward Courses will be available to play through the week.

David Senoner Fitness Classes

David is looking to hold specific golf related fitness classes at Latrobe. There is a survey to fill out to garner interest and ideal times. If you have interest in making your self more mobile, golf strong and less susceptible to injury, to keep you playing longer, this may be the answer to your aches and pains.
